The Mission of our School is to provide a high quality education within the context of a Christian environment. An understanding of the Roman Catholic faith, in line with the Gospel message, will underpin the whole work of the school.

The main aim will be to develop the self-esteem, dignity and respect of all members of the community by concentrating on each person's infinite worth in the eyes of God.

The school's 'Procedures Booklet' is available as a pdf download here for printing.

CREATING A SCHOOL POLICY DOCUMENT

1. A school policy document should be a working handbook including three sections.

Section 1 - policies finalised, and in place;
Section 2 - policies under discussion;
Section 3 - proposed policies.

2. There should also be a published timetable for discussing proposals, so that there is a long-term, more or less continuous, development of policies from proposal through discussion to implementation.

3. Each policy itself should
- be prepared and proposed by a member of the senior management group (or, possibly, in some cases, by other members of staff);
- be discussed appropriately by, for example, SMT, the 11-16 and 16-19 management teams, heads of department as a body, individual heads of department where relevant, academic tutors, teachers with specific relevant responsibilities;
- be revised, in the light of discussion, by the policy proposer;
- be monitored after implemetation by the proposer or by another member or members of staff.

4. Suggested topics for policy documents might include:

- encouraging pupils' creativity;
- encouraging pupils' problem-solving skills;
- encouraging pupils' performance skills;
- encouraging pupils' health education;
- encouraging pupils' study skills;
- activities week;
- environmental education
- the library;
- improving the aesthetic aspects of the curriculum;
- records of achievement;
- sixth form curriculum;
- special educational needs;
- summer term timetable;
- school visits;
- Year 9 options.
