HEALTH EDUCATION
1. AIMS
to develop an awareness and understanding in the pupils of key health issues that
will provide the foundation for a healthy and active life.
2. PREAMBLE
This aim will be met through relevant work across the curriculum combined with
a thematic approach which will highlight different areas of health each half-term.
There will be an annual Health Week in which the whole school is invited to concentrate
specifically on nine key issues: substance use and abuse; sex education; family
life; safety; exercise; food and nutrition; personal hygiene; environmental aspects
of health education; psychological aspects of health education.
3. OBLIGATIONS REQUIRED BY POLICY
i The Health Education Co-ordinator should
ensure that heads of department are aware of how health education forms a part
of the National Curriculum;
provide resources and support to see that the requirements of the policy are met;
review schemes of work for each subject area and provide a regular audit of work
relevant to health issues;
liaise with heads of department, teachers, heads of school, senior management
and kitchen staff to provide a whole school approach to health education;
provide displays throughout the school promoting healthy living;
plan and manage Health Week.
v Heads of Department should
liaise with the Health Education Co-ordinator to develop resources, etc;
have a scheme of work for health education.
vi All staff should
work together to present a positive image for health throughout the school;
encourage a healthy and well-balanced lifestyle.
4. The execution of this policy shall be monitored by 11-16 and 16-19 management
teams.
