GCSE Sports Studies Homework Policy
The nature of this course is both theoretical and practical and therefore deviates a little from the school guidelines.
Students will complete thirteen written core tasks over the two year course. These tasks will support the theoretical side of the course and give students the opportunity to apply their knowledge, preparing them for the final written examination. They will be completed as homework.
Each unit of theory work will be assessed with an End of Unit Test. There will be eight of these over the two years. Students will be expected to spend homework time preparing for these End of Unit tests. A letter grade will be awarded for both the core tasks and the tests. The grade expected to be achieved in these written aspects will be in line with the student’s expected GCSE grade in other written subjects.
Students will also be assessed in a number of practical activities over the two year course. They will be given an estimated mark out of a possible ten, with a final four being examined on the day of the practical exam at the end of Year 11. These marks will contribute 48% of the final grade achieved. ‘Homework’ for this aspect of the course is considered to be the student spending time practising, training for and playing their sports and representing school teams.
Finally, students will be assessed on the completion of five Analysis and Observation tasks. These provide the final 12% of the grade achieved. These will relate specifically to one of the student’s chosen practical performance areas.
