Music Department Homework Policy
Years 7, 8 and 9
- Although students at KS3 will not receive formal Performing Arts homework, they will be encouraged to develop the performing skills taught in the classroom further at home, if they have the resources to do so. Students are also welcome to book practice rooms at break and lunchtime in order to use departmental resources to further hone their skills. The Music computer suite is also available at allotted times for students to work on their set compositions.
- Students are also advised to listen to examples of the wide range of musical styles studied in KS3 Music lessons.
Year 10
12 main homeworks will be set over the academic year.
- Students will study nine set works in lessons. For homework, they will do background reading and produce an A4 information sheet for each set work.
- Students will record two solo performances and two ensemble performances as potential coursework submissions; homework time will be used to prepare for these.
- Students will record four compositions as potential coursework submissions; homework time will be used to work on ideas for these.
- Students will complete an independent research project and theory worksheets.
Year 11
12 main homeworks will be set over the academic year.
- Students will study three set works in lessons. For homework, they will do background reading and produce an A4 information sheet for each set work.
- Students will record one solo performance and one ensemble performance as potential coursework submissions; homework time will be used to prepare for these.
- Students will record one composition as a potential coursework submission; homework time will be used to work on ideas for this.
- Students will complete theory worksheets and revision grids.
Year 12

- Students will study nine set works in lessons. For homework, they will do background reading, answer Private Study Questions on each set work and produce a glossary of associated vocabulary.
- Students will have three opportunities to record their performance recital for coursework submissions; homework time will be used to prepare for these.
- Students will record one composition for coursework submission; homework time will be used to work on ideas for this.
- Students will do independent research for the CD sleeve note which will accompany their final composition.
- Students will complete regular harmony exercises.
Year 13
12 main homeworks will be set over the academic year.
- Students will study twelve set works in lessons. For homework, they will do background reading, answer Private Study Questions on each set work and produce a glossary of associated vocabulary.
- Students will have three opportunities to record their performance recital for coursework submissions; homework time will be used to prepare for these.
- Students will record one (or two) composition(s) for coursework submission; homework time will be used to work on ideas for this.
- Students will complete regular harmony and technical study exercises.
