Formative marking will be denoted as:

WORKING TOWARDS PASS

The student is making mistakes in the transcribing of information or in the selection of information that is relevant.

WORKING TOWARDS
MERIT

The student is transcribing and selecting relevant information, but is not explaining why it is relevant or important and has used key concepts without explaining them in simpler terms.

WORKING TOWARDS
DISTINCTION

The student is presenting the required information and offers sensible explanations for its meaning and significance, but draws few comparisons or conclusions of their own. The work is not distinguished by evidence of their own research or creativity.

Formative marking will be given informally as the students work on assignment tasks in school, under the teacher supervision required for coursework attestation.

Research preparation will be checked and suggestions made on its depth and accuracy. The student’s ‘log book’, of their activities on any given assignment will periodically be reviewed.

First drafts of each task will be returned to the student with suggestions, before the assigned task is collected for summative comment. This will then be entered on the MTR

Once all the tasks for an Assignment have been completed Learner feedback sheets will be issued with comment on how to improve the standard of the work, if it is below Distinction.

Internal verification will take place of the assessment decisions made on 4 Learner Feedback sheets per Assignment - and these will be retained for verification by others.

Students will have a last opportunity to submit improved work. This will then be graded.
