Design Technology Department
Design Technology
KS3
Students have a copy of the “Assessment of Pupils Work” in their folder which explains that individual tasks will be marked out of 10 against standardised descriptors. At the end of a project students are then awarded an overall NC level based on the evidence of all work presented.
Students keep a record of their marks, NC levels and record their own targets for improvement. From September 2011 students will also have a separate form on which they will record NC levels awarded for homework tasks.
KS4
Design Technology students will receive assessments using GCSE grades A*-G for individual tasks as well as summary grades for whole projects and for extended homework tasks.
In Year 11 as students progress through Controlled Assessments GCSE grades will be used to indicate levels of attainment.
KS5
All work that contributes to Controlled Assessments will receive an AS or A2 grade using the range A – E with substandard work recorded as U.
Students complete an “Internal Assessment Form” for each piece of work which includes a self assessment section the form is then returned with staff feedback and a GCE grade indicated. Students have a copy and the original is kept on file with grades recorded on MTR sheet.
Essays and theory work are also marked with GCE grades given alongside written feedback.

These tasks are completed throughout the year as both class work and homework they are marked by the assessor, internally verified, and moderated across other BTEC delivering departments to ensure consistency.
