Each topic at KS5 and KS4 will begin with a specification outlining the topics to be covered being given to the students. This should be referred to prior to assessments, and assessment policies should be made clear to students at all times.
. Green pen should be used, so marked work can be clearly identified. The ‘to improve’ stamp should be used on all marked prices of work.
KS4
At KS4, pupil’s homework books will be marked at least twice per half term. The twelve assessed pieces of work each year will be logged on SIMS on a regular basis (within one week of the piece of work being due), so that the individual students work can be assessed regularly.
In addition, students will be tested at the end of each section of the specification. These assessments will be in exercise books. These grades will also be logged on SIMS.
Marking will be completed in line with exam board criteria. Feedback should be made up of at least two comments; one relating to the specific piece of work, and one relating to the development of skills. At least one piece of peer assessment should also be carried out each half-term to familiarise students with the mark scheme.
Work scrutiny for KS4 will be carried out each half term. Books for each class will be scrutinised by John Jones, and results forwarded to HOD (Alban McAteer).
This scrutiny will consist of a selection of each students work from a range of grades. Work scrutiny should assess the marking completed by the class teacher, and the level of differentiation of task provided.
